Getting there
The castle is near the village of Trapp, south east of Llandeilo, about 30 to 35 minutes from the lodges. The lanes are narrow in places, so take your time and enjoy the views.
What to see
The walk up from the car park climbs through farmland to the gatehouse, and the views open up with every step. Inside the walls, the real adventure is the passage cut into the cliff beneath the castle, which leads down into a natural cave. Bring a torch, or your phone light, and go carefully.
From the walls you can look out across the valley to the Black Mountain on one side and rolling Carmarthenshire farmland on the other. It is one of the best viewpoints in the area.
Make a day of it
Combine the castle with the circular walk around the Cennen valley, then carry on to Llandeilo for lunch and a wander around the shops. Dinefwr Park, with its deer park and ruined castle, is just on the edge of town if you still have energy.
Back to the lodge
